Overview
Storyline text boxes have a fixed size and position by default, which works fine until a learner zooms their browser or uses a screen magnifier. Text that was already comfortably sized can suddenly get clipped by the edge of its own box, or overlap another object, because the box itself didn't grow with the text. Separately, body text set smaller than about 12px is hard for a lot of learners to read even without zooming.
Step-by-step instructions
- 1
Select the text box in question.
- 2
Check the font size, if body text is smaller than roughly 14px, increase it.
- 3
Right-click the text box, choose Format Shape, and look at the Text Box options.
- 4
Turn on "Resize shape to fit text" if it's available, so the box grows instead of clipping when the text needs more room.
- 5
If the box can't resize (it's tightly positioned against other objects), give it more empty space around it so growth has somewhere to go.
- 6
Zoom your own browser to 200% while previewing the slide, and confirm nothing gets cut off or overlaps.

Tips
- Test at 200% zoom as a habit on any slide with dense text, it catches clipping problems that are invisible at normal size.
- Leave a little breathing room around text boxes when you lay out a slide, it gives text somewhere to grow into later.
- If text is an image (a screenshot with words in it) rather than real text, it can't be resized or read by a screen reader at all, use real text boxes instead wherever you can.
Common mistakes
- Text boxes locked to a fixed size that clips or overlaps as soon as a learner zooms in.
- Body text set below a comfortable reading size to make a crowded slide fit.
- Important text baked into a screenshot or graphic instead of a real, resizable text box.
Why it matters
Learners with low vision often zoom in or use larger fonts. If text is too small to start with, or gets cut off when enlarged, they lose the content entirely.
